On 21st May 2015, the Social Welfare Bureau (SWB), in collaboration with several local NGOs, hosted the inaugural ceremony of the event “Promise to fight against drug abuse starting from home”, a project aimed at encouraging parents to engage in anti-drug education and guide their children to a healthy lifestyle. The simple but yet impressive ceremony was presided by Hon Wai, department head of Prevention and Treatment for Drug Dependence of SWB, Che Un Sao, vice-president of Executive Committee of Women's General Association of Macao, Ho Man Wa, director of Youth Community Center of YMCA of Macao, Wong Kong Sun, vice-director of Community Center of ZAPE District of Neighborhood Association of ZAPE, Wu Hoi Ieng, representative of Youth and Family Integrated Service Center of Taipa of Sheng Kung Hui, and Lok Chi Ian, vice-director of Stage Service Center of Macao Federation of Trade Unions.
Since May 22nd around 6500 parents have signed up online for the project in two phases
Through the online sign-up, parents pledge to “Care for the healthy development of their children and begin to convey the knowledge about harmful effects of drugs during childhood”. It encourages parents to incorporate anti-drug education into family life, which is conducive to improving relationship with their children and cultivating healthy life habits at home.
The inaugural ceremony was honored by the presence of representatives from Women's General Association of Macao, Community Center of ZAPE District of Neighborhood Association of ZAPE, Stage Service Center of Macao Federation of Trade Unions, Youth Community Center of YMCA of Macao and the Youth and Family Integrated Service Center of Taipa of Sheng Kung Hui of Macao. It marks a concerted effort by the government and NGOs in combating drugs through initiating anti-drug education in family.
